My recent visit to Grindelwald was a dream. The village is the perfect setting for a mountain getaway and I wanted to share some of my favorite stops to help you plan your own weekend getaway.
I stayed at Waldhuus Bellary, a cozy accommodation just about a 20-minute walk from the train station (there is also a bus). The views from my balcony were simply outstanding and while you’re close to the village you’re can also enjoy the peaceful view without the Hustle and bustle. The place itself gives kind of a mix vibe between a hotel and a hostel with cozy wooden decor and warm colors.

A helpful tip: when you stay overnight in Grindelwald, you receive a guest card. This includes transportation inside the village and discounts on different activities. If you also have a half-fare card, it’s worth checking which discount is better, as sometimes the half-fare card gives you a better deal.
Some Things to Add to Your Weekend
Cable Car to Männlichen
The cable car from Grindelwald Terminal to Männlichen is a must. Up there, you can enjoy truly spectacular views, there are restaurants, a playground and about a 10 minutes hike to the stunning panoramic viewpoint.
Additionally, you can hop on a short and breathtaking 1.5-hour hike to Kleine Scheidegg. This hike is outstanding on a clear day and afterward you can take the cogwheel train back to the village.

Taste of the Region
Take a stroll through the village and be sure to stop at the Eigerness shop. This is a great local spot to purchase regional delicacies and I highly recommend trying their alpine cheeses.
Seek Out Thrills
The trip up to Grindelwald First is a definite highlight. The cable car ride is already an experience by itself as its quite long with stunning views. You can challenge yourselves on the Cliff Walk, a thrilling experience that comes at no extra charge.
This area also offers other exciting activities, like mountain carts, the First Flyer, and the Eagle Glider. For a more serene experience, you can hike to the stunning alpine lake, Bachalpsee, a moderate two-hour trek from First with incredible views.

A Unique Dining Experience
If you want a special dinner, check out 1910 Gourmet by Hausers. It has a Michelin star and is perfect for a treat. The restaurant itself is quite cozy and makes it a perfect spot for a date.
Relax with a View
In the afternoon, you can stop for a coffee at the Belvedere Grindelwald. They have a terrace with a majestic view of the surrounding mountains and the village. For a more unique experience, you can enjoy a hearty fondue in one of their cute little gondolas.

This should be more than enough to fill up your weekend, but if you have a bit more time on your hands, you might also want to check out the Pfingstegg Toboggan Run, the Glacier Gorge Grindelwald, or the Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe. The Top of Europe is considered one of the highlights and if you choose to go there make sure to go very early to avoid the crowd.
