Your Autumn Bucket List in Switzerland

Autumn is almost here and it’s one of the best seasons to get out and explore what our country has to offer. If you’re looking for some ideas, here are my personal highlights for the season including amazing activities and Must See events.

My top picks to make the most of this season:

1. Alpine Festivals: Visit a traditional alpine festival and watch the decorated cows as they parade down from the mountains. These events are super fun and you can find all the upcoming ones in this dedicated post.

2. Pumpkin Fun: Get into the autumn spirit with a visit to a pumpkin exhibition, like the famous one at Jucker Farm.

3. Golden Views: Take a trip to the UNESCO terraces of Lavaux. The vineyards turn a stunning golden color in the autumn. You can even combine your visit with a wine tasting session or a weekend getaway to Lausanne, Montreux or Vevey.

4. Harvest Festivals: A unique way to celebrate the season is at a local harvest festival. Some of the biggest ones, like those in Döttingen or Neuchâtel which include amazing parades and local treats. You can find all the upcoming events for September here but I will create a dedicated post for Wine and Harvest events very soon.

5. Epic Hikes: Autumn is perfect for hiking. The clear air and colorful landscapes make for an unforgettable experience. Some amazing spots to check out are Oeschinensee, Saxer Lücke and Seealpsee.

6. Scenic Train Rides: If you want to enjoy incredible views in luxury hop on one of the panoramic train rides. The GoldenPass Belle Époque for example is my absolute favorite in terms of design and the Glacier Express has some of the most famous and breathtaking scenery.

7. Swiss Cheese and Chocolate: Visit a cheese factory for example the ones in Gruyères or Appenzell. Or, for those with a sweet tooth, go to a chocolate factory or take a workshop to create your own delicious treats. Lett me know if you want me to add some cheese and chocolate experiences in a dedicated blog post.

8. Castle Adventures: This is a great activity also in rainy days. One of my favorites is the Castle of Chillon, right on the edge of Lake Geneva, with its history and amazing views.

9. Autumn Fairs: The Basel Autumn Fair and the Lozärner Määs in Lucerne are big events with rides, food, and plenty of fun.

Enjoy and let me know if you have any questions!
