Fun Events: June in Switzerland

The summer is finally here and there are so many things to do around Switzerland! Including plenty of events and music festivals. Here is your bucket list for an unforgettable June in Switzerland:

1st of June

Gruyères: Double cream festival in Gruyères: With a festival pass which costs 18.- for adults and 8.- for a child. You can immerse yourself in a unique culinary experience to explore the town and discover the Double Cream specialties offered by local restaurateurs. This pass grants you access to a festival give you exclusive discounts on different attractions in the town.

Locarno: Street food Festival- a colorful street food festival on the lakeside promenade with food and drinks from around the world.

St. Gallen: Longines CSIO- Official show jumping tournament of Switzerland with the world’s best show jumpers and their top horses from May 30th till June 2nd.

Arbon: PADL Festival- The kayak and SUP event from May 31st – June 2nd at the Arbon lido.

Aigle: The Rallye du Chablais takes to the streets of Aigle for its 20th edition.

Sarnen: Lake rowing regatta with international participation and around 1,400 boats.

Undervelier: Jura cantonal Swiss wrestling festival. A folklore atmosphere with several small folk music groups performing, as well as a big folklore evening on Saturday night.

Buochs: The AHOI is a free event for the local and regional population. A weekend with great music acts such as “Linda Elys” or “Pedestrians” and delicious food stands.

Avenches: The Avenches Open Air festival is all about festive rock music and atmosphere.

Boveresse: The “Green Fairy”– Inspired by the “open cellars”. This event allows visitors to enter various distilleries in the Val-de-Travers, as well as the Absinthe house and the Absinthe drying shed.

Lugano: The Festival Poestate is the first for historicity and most important literary festival in the canton of Ticino.

Solothurn: Mozart Festival from May 31 to June 2 you can experience performances of masterpieces by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in the Solothurn Concert Hall.

2nd of June

Ascona: Mercato del Gusto- an extraordinary event with the top chefs of The Living Circle group. Who will welcome their colleagues for a day of culinary pleasure. In total, there will be 13 Michelin stars and 154 GaultMillau points!

Lucerne: The Lucerne Cantonal Wrestling Festival takes place in the municipality of Hasle in the beautiful UNESCO Biosphere Entlebuch.

Rapperswil SG: IRONMAN 70.3- The IRONMAN 70.3 is a triathlon of the particularly pretty variety: the swim course of 1.9 kilometers leads through the crystal-clear waters of the upper part of Lake Zurich, called Obersee. A beautiful 90-kilometer bike course follows the lake and runs along lush pastures and more.

4th of June

St. Gallen: St.Galler Kinderfest- The St. Gallen Children’s Festival is an urban folk festival. School children from the town’s schools parade through the town in festive costumes to the Kinderfestplatz, where they perform various shows. More than 30,000 people gather on the large meadow on the Rosenberg high above the town. Original dates: 22-26.05 postponed due to weather to June 4th.

Lucerne: The Open Air Theater is taking place in Lucerne from June 4th to July 13th.

5th of June

Crans VD: The Caribana Festival- a festival that takes place every year at the Port of Crans-près-Céligny, an idyllic setting on the shores of Lake Geneva. Dates: June 5th-8th.

6th of June

Zurich: Food Festival in Zurich- 11 days of culinary festivities around the city with a lot of fun events and workshops! Dates: June 6th-16th.

Bellinzona: The Music Event “Bellinzona Beatles Day” is dedicated to the classical Rock while keeping a sound and strong connection to its origins, the mythical “THE BEATLES”.

Weggis: Heirassa Festival- Weggis hosts the largest Swiss folk music festival in Switzerland. 4 days of live folk music performed by the most popular groups in Switzerland.

7th of June

Chur: The 9th Buskers Chur brings art directly to the streets and combines music with theater, circus and artistry. 

Fribourg: Pérolles Festivities- The Feast of Pérolles, a lively annual event in Fribourg, brings the community together for a vibrant market, entertainment, and celebration of local artisans and businesses, organized by the ACAIP.

Aigle: Aigl’in Music Festival- a small festival with young artists to headliners, it’s all about singing and dancing in Aigle.

Biel / Bienne: The Biel Running Days are Biel’s largest sporting event. The competition includes races over different distances and attracts a great many visitors from near and far.

Lenzerheide: The Lenzerheide Motor Classics will take place from June 7th – 9th. More than 200 historic racing and sports cars as well as motorbikes, sidecars and three-wheelers are presented at the Lenzerheide Motor Classics.

Oensingen: The Bechburg Festival in Oensingen is a music festival held at the Schloss Neu-Bechburg castle, offering a unique and intimate atmosphere for live performances.

8th of June

Locarno: Notte Bianca- Locarno will stay awake all night long giving space to culture, music, art and entertainment. Live-concerts, dance performances, street artists and stalls with culinary specialities.

Bellinzona: Medieval entertainment at the Fortress of Bellinzona. he “Spada nella Rocca” group will be present with mediaeval re-enactment activities from 10.00 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. in the atmospheric inner courtyard of Castel Grande.

Zurich: The Gusta Ticino is an annual event that celebrates Ticino cuisine and culture in the bustling city of Zurich along a 9-kilometer route divided into 7 “gourmet” stages.

Nyon: Spectaculum- For one weekend, Nyon will be the place to be for ancient shows and games! Come and watch gladiators fight and train, take part in games of skill, strategy or role-playing, and listen to tales and tirades. Exceptionally, the amphitheater will be opening its doors! Artisans will be revealing the secrets of ceramics, leatherwork, glass and metalwork.

Switzerland: World Heritage Days- with UNESCO World Heritage properties in Switzerland open their doors and invite you into the world of our Heritage with unique experiences!

Distelalp, Saas-Almagell: Experience this historic custom when the cows are brought to the alp for the summer. Location: Saas-Almagell, Zermeiggern (South of the balancing basin). The date is tentative and may change due to pasture conditions.

Klosters: Graubünden Cantonal Music Festival- Competitions, parade music and an attractive supporting program in Klosters dedicated to music with over 60 clubs.

Moudon: FestiMusiques- Friendly festival with a large and enthusiastic audience, THE meeting place for fans of popular and traditional music.

Hemberg: Official car race of the Swiss Mountain Championship against a breathtaking backdrop.

Hitzkirch: A beautiful run around Lake Baldegg.

9th of June

Stoos: Stoos-Schwinget- the first mountain wrestling festival of the season, where the top Swiss wrestlers battle amidst breathtaking mountain scenery!

Brugg: The Vindonissa Roman Day- with spectacular gladiator battles, Roman daily life displays, legionnaires’ camps, children’s gladiator training, crafts, merchant stalls, a Roman classroom, and a demonstration kitchen.

Vevey Lavaux: The Vevey Lavaux Up returns to its original route between Vevey-Corseaux Plage and Cully, offering a day dedicated to soft mobility with a unique panorama to be enjoyed by bike, on foot, scooter, or rollerblades.

Ambrì: Freestyle Motocross- the motocross event returns to the Gotthard Arena for its third edition.

Bern: The largest Swiss women’s sporting event in Bern.

11th of June

Herisau: The children’s festival- A colorful day for children with a parade, music and festivities. The procession departs at 14:00: From the Old Armory in the direction of the square, Oberdorfstrasse, Arthur-Schiess-Strasse, via the traffic circle, Kasernenstrasse, via the traffic circle, Bahnhofstrasse, Zeughausstrasse, Bachstrasse, Buchenstrasse, Ebnetstrasse, arriving at the Ebnet fairground. From 15:30 – 22:30 performances, music & fireworks on the Ebnet fairground. Important info: Subject to weather!!

Lugano: The second edition of the international contemporary dance festival Lugano Dance Project is dedicated to the combination of the human body and architecture. Dates: June 11th-16th.

12th of June

Caslano: The Caslano Blues with musicians and bands from all over the world. Dates: June 12th-16th.

13th of June

Basel: The Art Basel showcases art from the 20th and 21st centuries, and is the international art market’s most important global exhibition. Over 300 carefully selected exhibitors from the world’s major galleries turn this exhibition into a major temporary museum. Dates: June 13th to 16th.

Neuchâtel: Festi’neuch Neuchâtel open-air Festival’s program includes the latest hits from the worlds of rock, pop, reggae, world music and electro. Dates: June 13th -16th.

Matten bei Interlaken: The Greenfield Festival is The biggest rock festival in Switzerland.

Ticino: The Tour de Suisse returns to Ticino from the Gotthard Arena in Ambrì. And after a route that will touch the territory of the entire Upper Ticino.

Payerne: The Red Pigs Festival – a Festival of Music with a choice of artists as bold as they are punchy. Dates: June 13th-15th.

Sierre: The Blues Festival- an authentic connection between blues enthusiasts and the local community. Dates: June 13th-15th.

14th of June

Langnau im Emmental: Bernese Cantonal Yodeling Festival- a celebration for the whole family. With a large number of yodelers and a big parade on Sunday. Dates: June 14th-16th.

Nendaz: Cantonal Costumes Festival- The 70th Cantonal Costumes Festival organized by the folk group Ej’Ecochyoeü de Ninda. With nearly 40 folk groups affiliated to the Fédération valaisanne des costumes et des arts populaires will take part in the event. Dates: June 14th-15th.

Rapperswil-Jona: blues’n’jazz- one of the most important Swiss meeting places for music lovers. Dates: June 14th-16th.

Zurich: Klostermarkt Zurich main station- On June 14th-15th, over 20 monasteries will sell home-made products. There is also a cozy restaurant and numerous artistic and craft events, including for children.

Blatten: Tour de Suisse- Blatten stage location again for the first time since 1974.

Ligerz: Jazz Days – The exclusive Jazz Festival with fine jazz and culinary delicacies in an idyllic wine village atmosphere.

15th of June

Zurich: The Zurich Pride Festival- A huge parade in Zurich for the queer community of the whole of Switzerland and its friends. Dates: June 15th-16th.

Davos: Swiss Wrestling festival in the Kurpark Davos in the Bündner Glarner Schwingfest from June 15th-16th.

Belalp: The traditional ascent of the Eringer cows to the Belalp marks the start of the alpine summer, featuring a cattle drive at 9:00 a.m., Holy Mass and animal blessing at 10:00, and cow fights starting at 11:00, followed by festivities at Chiematte near the top gondola station.

Zurich: Opera for all- Zurich Opera House invites everyone toroper. This free major open-air event has now become an integral part of Zurich’s cultural agenda.

Augst BL: International Breaking & Hip Hop Festival im Theater Augusta Raurica in Augst.

Einsiedeln: Schwyz Cantonal Gymnastics Festival takes place every six years. This year, over 5700 gymnasts compete in various gymnastics disciplines over two weekends.

Charmey: A mountain bike competition for children takes place in the village of Charmey.

18th of June

St. Gallen: The “New Orleans meets St. Gallen” festival invites music lovers to enjoy sophisticated southern jazz in the city center, opening with a parade at 5:30 p.m. and featuring global musicians on four stages from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., with free entry, food stalls from 4:30 p.m., and festivities held in all weather conditions.

Lenzburg: An international open-air festival for classical and world music in the heart of the canton of Aargau.

Basel: European Fencing Championships – As the final event before the Paris Olympics (July 26 – August 11, 2024), this year’s European Championship is crucial for national teams to refine their line-ups, and Basel, known for its rich fencing and sports tradition, welcomes all fencing enthusiasts.

19th of June

Morges: The Music Festival- Fête de la Musique returns from June 19th- 23rd, featuring three stages at the Town Hall, Place de la Gare, and Couvaloup for children. Free entry.

Martigny: European Pétanque Championship in Martigny between June 19th-23rd.

20th of June

Ascona: the town of Ascona and its picturesque lakefront is immersing in the world of music, hosting one of the biggest jazz events in Switzerland. Dates: June 20th -29th.

Lavaux: The Lavaux Classic festival in the enchanting setting of Lavaux, between Cully, Villette, Pully and Vevey. Dates: June 20th -30th.

Grenchen: Summerside Festival- Surrounded by the beautiful Jura mountains, the Summerside festival at Grenchen Airport will feature spectacular performances from global music stars.

Schmitten: the Schmittner Openair will take place from 20 to 22nd June.

Glarus: The cozy and family-friendly festival in the Swiss Alps, GLKB Stadtopenair Sound of Glarus, celebrates its 16th edition amidst the stunning Glarus mountain scenery, now in its fourth year at the venerable Zaunplatz, featuring performances by Matthias Reim, Gentleman, Eagle Eye Cherry, Plüsch, Baschi, and Megawatt, with the small stage offering pleasant background sounds.

21st of June

Lausanne: The music festival- Fête de la Musique is an opportunity to see concerts all over the city of Lausanne. Its streets, squares, parks and churches become stages for performances of every musical genre.

Fribourg / Freiburg: The Music Day- Many stages in the city will honor the day of the music.

Chur: Street Art Festival with guided tours, live painting and much more. Dates: June 21st-23rd.

Baar: Music Festival- 3 days of music from June 21st- 23rd with over 40 brass bands from Central Switzerland and beyond, with performances in two halls, a parade route on Dorfstrasse, and a festive area on Dorfmatt-Wiese featuring a fair from Friday to Sunday.

Nyon: An International Rose Competition in Nyon to showcase new varieties of roses from around the world.

Mendrisio: Festival of Music- The Festa della Musica of Mendrisio is inspired by the values of the international Fête de la Musique event. Dates: June 21st-22nd.

Zurich: Alba Festival- Discover the Albanian joie de vivre and experience the diversity of Albanian music. At the alba Festival, the largest and most atmospheric festival for Albanian music and culture in Europe. The stars of the Albanian music scene from all over the world play here.

Leukerbad: International Literature Festival- Stories, poems and talks await you at the international literature festival – on stage and off stage while hiking and thermal bathing.

Bad Ragaz: The Quellrock Open Air offering top-notch music amidst the historic ruins of Bad Ragaz’s Freudenberg Castle, featuring both national and international acts this year.

Gstaad: LA REINE – The first road bike cycling festival EXCLUSIVELY for women. Dates: June 21st- 22nd.

Lenk im Simmental: A Midsummer Festival in Lenk.

23rd of June

Grindelwald: Spring Mountain Festival- Folkloristic performances from 09:45-14:30 on the Männlichen.

Schwarzsee FR: Alpine wrestling festival in the unique Schwarzsee natural landscape, and the only prize-licensed alpine wrestling competition in South-West-Switzerland.

Olten: Children Open Air- a colorful mix of music and fun, featuring stars from Swiss children’s entertainment, and offering activities like meeting Jamadu, bouncing on the bouncy castle and more.

Klosters: ITF World Tennis Tour Combined Event Men’s M25 and Women’s W35. Dates: June 23rd- 30th.

Ambrì-Piotta: Gottardo Classic- an event dedicated to vintage cars and young-timers, including tourist/panoramic tracks, regularity trials, and an exhibition area

24th of June

Zug: Chriesigloggä- Zug is a cherry canton. The «Chriesigloggä» (cherry bell) celebrates the opening of the cherry season. This all goes back to an old tradition. When locals used to rush off with long ladders (men and children) and with big panniers (women) through the old town to start picking the cherries grown on nearby common land. These days the «Chriesisturm» (cherry storm) is celebrated just for fun and is followed by the opportunity for a splendid lunch and the traditional cherry market.

26th of June

Giswil-Mörlialp: Folk culture festival OBWALD- featuring folk musicians from a guest country alongside Swiss folk music groups. Dates: June 26th-30th.

27th of June

Fribourg: The FriBouge Festival- The traditional braderie in the Rue de Romont is back with a huge street sale, bars, food trucks, and new music zones for all styles.

St. Gallen: Open Air- 3 days of up to 40 performances on two stages in the idyllic Sittertobel valley. Music styles include rock, pop, alternative, hip-hop, humor, and much more. Dates: June 27th-30th.

Bellinzona: Montebello festival – a unique event in the medieval Montebello Castle of Bellinzona, part of the UNESCO World Heritage since 2000, providing an international music show.

Münchenstein: Summerstage Basel – A music festival in the park in the countryside. Dates: June 27th- 29th.

Fribourg: The Belluard Bollwerk International – a platform for projects from different artistic disciplines such as theater, dance, performance, music, visual arts and art in public space.

28th of June

Zurich: Eidgenössisches Trachtenfest- The Federal Costume Festival– Zurich is hosting the big get-together of tradition lovers, the Federal Costume Festival. People in traditional costume from all cantons and language regions will present themselves with dance, song and music. Dates: June 28th-30th.

Winterthur: Albanifest- City Festival of Clubs and Cultures. Every year on the last weekend in June, Winterthur’s heart beats faster for three days. – over 100,000 festival guests experience Winterthur’s spirit of community.

Basel: The biggest open-air blues event in Switzerland- an entire district is transformed into an open-air blues club for one summer evening – over 30 bands on large and small stages. Free admission.

Interlaken: An International Trucker and Country Festival. Dates: June 28th -30th.

Thun: Latin Festival- a cultural event where Swiss and Latinos meet to share their customs through cuisine, music, and dance, featuring performances by well-known live bands and dancers for a varied and entertaining program. Dates: June 28th- 29th.

Grandval: 96th Bernese Jura Swiss Wrestling Festival.

Biel / Bienne: Biel Braderie- The Biel summer festival attracts around 100,000 visitors from near and far to Biel. Dates: June 28th-30th.

Sempach: Central Swiss Yodeling Festival in Sempach from June 28th- 30th.

St. Stephan: Europe’s largest Rock’n’roll, Custom & Classic Car and Bike Meeting. Dates: June 28th- 29th.

Eglisau: Dragon boat race- a sport that originated in Asia with a race accessible to a wide audience.

Bad Ragaz: Heidi Classic- Grandiose rally ride in the middle of Bad Ragaz – For all vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles with 4, 3 or two wheels are welcome.

Aigle: Festival of Colors – Festival du Monde dedicated to joy, artistic diversity and living together.

Buchs SG: BUXX ISST is a festival featuring street food and a world of delights, from June 28th- 30th.

Romont: Braderie de Romont- including bumper cars, public guided tours and various street animations in Romont throughout the weekend.

Wengen: Evening run- Exciting run for adults and children around the village of Wengen, with a great view to the Jungfrau massif. Dates: June 28th- August 9th.

Davos: The mountain bike race series “ÖKK BIKE REVOLUTION” stops in Davos.

29th of June

Veysonnaz: Inalpe in the pastures of Combyre in Veysonnaz. A chance to witness the traditional event where herds of Hérens cows are mixed, showcasing their strength and hierarchy through non-violent battles. The winner earning the prestigious title of “Queen”.

Zermatt: Goats’ Tour- A herd of about 40 blackneck goats passes through the Bahnhofstrasse each morning and evening. Hours: 09:00 and 16:30. Dates: June 29th- August 16th.

Fribourg: International Festival of Sacred Music of Fribourg. Dates: June 29th- July 7th.

Lucerne: International Organ Festival- begins with a grand opening concert and presents organists from Belgium, Germany, Italy and Switzerland in the following six concerts.

30th of June

Zermatt: Folklore Music Weeks- watching the alphorn and the Schwyzerörgeli playing close up. Listen to the musicians in the open air and enjoy the music. These are the Zermatt Folklore Music Weeks. During this time, numerous folkloric groups perform in the village of Zermatt as well as on the excursion mountains of Zermatt – Matterhorn. Dates: June 30th – October 12th.
