Fun Events: July in Switzerland

The summer is here and it’s time to explore all the amazing events around Switzerland this month! Here is your list with the upcoming events:

1st of July

Zermatt: Folklore Music Weeks and goats tours around Zermatt.

Fribourg / Freiburg: The International Festival of Sacred Music is one of the important classical music meeting in Switzerland. Dates: June 29th- July 7th.

St. Gallen: The St. Gallen Festival: in the monastery courtyard of the UNESCO World Heritage Site with its magnificent Baroque cathedral becomes the backdrop for an opera drama. Till July 6th.

Zug: The Open Air Cinema is back in Zug from July 1st to August 6th.

Bellinzona: Montebello festival – a unique event in the medieval Montebello Castle of Bellinzona, part of the UNESCO World Heritage since 2000, providing an international music show.

2nd of July

Lausanne: Festival de la Cité- A summer event in Lausanne between July 2nd-7th combining theatre performances with music, dance, circus and installations.

Brienz: The International Wood Sculpture Symposium is taking place between July 2nd-6th. With wood sculptors demonstrating their skills on the shores of turquoise Lake Brienz.

St. Gallen: The Culture Festival St. Gallen is a meeting point for music and culture lovers in Eastern Switzerland. Dates: 02-22.07.

3rd of July

Zurich: The Zurich city lake crossing- Zurich’s largest swimming event for good swimmers: During the lake crossing, up to 9,000 people cover the secured, 1,500 m long route from the Mythenquai lido to Tiefenbrunnen.

Grindelwald: The Street Festival in Grindelwald. The main street becomes a festival street from 20:00 until midnight with several bars, live music, activities and various shows.

Gstaad: The Swatch Beach Pro Gstaad- Among the top athletes, the tournament is considered the most beautiful tournament in the world – perhaps thanks to the alpine surroundings. Dates: 03-07.07.

Bern: PINK Summer Carnival Tour- P!NK is returning to the UK and Europe in 2024 for her ‘Summer Carnival World Tour’, featuring special guests The Script, GAYLE, and KidCutUp.

Grindelwald: Eigertour Hike & Fly is taking place in Grindelwald in the heart of the Swiss Alps. Dates: 03-06.07.

4th of July

Locarno: The Lights and Shadows is a summer event in Locarno-Muralto that offers entertainment, music, food, and a spectacular fireworks display on Saturday night, rescheduled to Sunday if the weather doesn’t cooperate. Dates: 04-06.07.

Nyon: The Open Air Jazz Festival Rive Jazzy with all styles of jazz from New Orleans to blues/rock. Dates: From July 4th to August 11th.

Murten: The Stars of Sounds- This Swiss music festival boasts a diverse lineup, including rock legends Scorpions, electronic music star Paul Kalkbrenner, pop icons Take That, and many more. Dates: 04-07.07.

St. Moritz: The Festival da Jazz in St. Moritz – jazz in the stunning backdrop of the Alps. Dates: 04-28.07.

5th of July

Montreux: The Montreux Jazz Festival– one of the highlights of summer in Switzerland! Each year, nearly 250,000 music lovers flock to this iconic Festival. Drawn in by its stunning setting, amazing acoustics, and a good amount of free performances. Dates: July 5th – 20th.

Weggis: The Weggis Roses Festival- A summer festival with live music, Countless bars, snacks and entertainment stands. Plus, Fireworks on Saturday night at 22:30. Dates: July 5th-7th.

Saxon: National Apricot Festival- A festive program around apricot with music, dances, folklore and a market. Dates: July 5th-7th.

Menzingen: The 117th Central Swiss Wrestling and Alpine Festival will take place in Menzingen in the canton of Zug between the 5th and the 7th of July.

Zurich: Caliente- The Latin Music Festival- A colorful festival in Zurich for lovers of Latin American music, cuisine and culture. Dates: 05-07.07.

Hundwil: The Appenzell Cantonal Wrestling Festival and the Cantonal Young Wrestlers’ Day will take place in Hundwil on July 5th-7th.

Lugano: The Swiss Harley Days will take place in Ticino from July 5th-7th. With party atmosphere, moto-enthusiasts and brand fans joining together to celebrate all things Harley-Davidson.

Schaffhausen: The Lindli Fäscht- a city festival on the banks of the Rhine in Schaffhausen. Dates: 05-06.07.

Le Locle: Music Festival Promo- a free open-air festival. Dates: 05-06.07.

Arbon: Seenachtsfest- The Lake Night Festival is taking place on the Arbon promenade for the first time. Dates: 05-07.07.

Wildhaus: OpenAir Wildhaus from July 5th-6th- Celebrates the 10th anniversary with a diverse lineup of Schlager artists, headlined by Nik P. & Band.

Lachen: The Lake Night Festival is taking place from 05.07.07. With highlights such as Baschi and Dabu Fantastic, as well as a day dance on the lake.

Villars-sur-Ollon: The UCI Gran Fondo World Series is stopping off in Villars on 5 and 7 July. Road cycling takes center stage in the Chablais region.

Neuchâtel: The Fantastic Film Festival – Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival (NIFFF). Dates: 05-13.07.

Cernier: Festival “Poésie en arrosoir”- Poets take the stage, bringing words to life through theater, music, performances, and workshops. Dates: 05-14.07.

6th of July

San Bernardino: Alphorn Festival- Alphorns performances in the beautiful setting surrounding Lake Doss.

Stans: An Old-timers flight parade on the Stanserhorn.

Zurich: Afro Summer Jam- A celebration of culture, music and life on the picturesque shores of Lake Zurich on the Landiwiese. Dates: 06-07.07.

Grindelwald: The Eiger Music Festival with a variety of artists.

Geneva: La Tour Geneva Triathlon features seven race formats in the heart of downtown Geneva for triathletes of all ages and abilities. Whether you’re experienced in triathlon, new to the sport, or simply looking for a challenge, there’s a race format for you.

Gryon: Swiss Cervelas Festival– The Swiss Cervelas Festival has a simple and traditional formula: a big fire, Cervelas sausages, a salad buffet, and great music.

Saas-Fee: SaasFeestival- Wanton mood und great music in front of a beautiful scenery. Dates: 06-09.07.

Steckborn: Summer Night Festival- with fireworks display on the Untersee.

Davos: Davos Klosters Sounds Good- The New Orleans Jazz Festival in the Alps. Dates: 06-14.07.

Grächen: Gornergrat Zermatt Marathon is one of the most challenging alpine running events. With a distance of 42 kilometers and a difference in altitude of around 1800 meters.

Zernez: Engadin Cycle Marathon – The “La Cuorta” (97km and 1,367m) of the Engadin Cycle Marathon over two passes beyond the 2,000-meter mark.

Bühler: The largest bouncy castle fun park in Switzerland- Vacation fun in Appenzellerland: open daily in all weathers between July 6th- 26th.

7th of July

Grindelwald: Yodelers’ chilbi in the Bachläger with the Grindelwald Yodelers’ Club.

Nottwil: CKW Sempachersee Triathlon- The fastest triathlon in Switzerland. With the backdrop of Lake Sempach and Central Switzerland’s local mountains, the Rigi and Pilatus

Le Pont: slowUp Vallée de Joux- The idea behind slowUp is simple: to close a road to motorized traffic for a day dedicated to cyclists, roller bladders and walkers.

Thun: Ironman Switzerland Championship – taking place this year in Thun.

9th of July

Biel / Bienne: Pod’Ring- The summer festival in Biel’s old town is the cultural week of the region. With concerts, literature and theatre performances and kids activities. Dates: 09-13.07.

Stans: Winkelriedfeier – a village festival at the town square.

11th of July

Lugano: The LongLake Festival- with concerts, street artists, theatre performances, cabaret, family events, themed markets and food. Dates: July 11th- 28th.

Locarno: Moon & Stars- 9 days of pop and rock music in Piazza Grande in Locarno between 11-20.07.

Frauenfeld: The Openair Frauenfeld- The biggest hip-hop festival in Europe. Dates: 11-13.07.

Zurich: A Waterfront Festival in Zurich between July 11th-20th.

Zurich: World Youth Music Festival- with youth orchestras from all over the world. Dates: 11-14.07.

Crans-Montana: Am Stram Gram- A family festival in the mountains. With circus acts, theatre and workshops. Dates: 11-14.07.

12th of July

Lugano: Estival Jazz- an international jazz festival between July 12th- 13th.

Estavayer-le-Lac: Esta’Swing- A street jazz festival in the historic center of the “Cité à la Rose”. Dates: 12-13.07.

Cheyres: Festi’Cheyres- Over the course of a weekend, the lakeside is transformed into a concert hall and open-air venue. Rock, pop, folk and even shows for children.

Basel: International Motorcycle & Music Festival. A free event at St. Jakob in Basel. With Live Bands, Shows, Street food, Bars, Bikes, Test Rides, Market, Smoker Lounge, Tattoo and Biker Parade on Saturday 4PM (- All Bikes Welcome!) Dates: 12-14.07.

St. Gallen: Emmi CAFFÈ LATTE Beachtour- Highest beach volleyball tournament series in Switzerland. In addition the Street Food Beach Park offers an additional highlight with culinary delicacies from all over the world. Dates: 12-14.07.

Twann: Lakesplash Reggae Openair- Two days of peace, love and reggae on the 12-13.07.

Nufenen: Openair Rheinwald- Dancing, partying, camping – a peaceful concert weekend for locals and visitors. Dates: 12-14.07.

Echallens: Swiss Mountain Bike Championships from July 12th- 14th.

Lenk: Jazz Days – A Festival of Jazz bis Blues & Pop between July 12th -21st.

Maggia: Vallemaggia Magic Blues- An open air festival presenting blues music concerts featuring both national and international bands. Dates: July 12th – August 8th.

Gstaad: Menuhin Festival & Academy- a summer of musical event, with world premieres, legendary artists like Jonas Kaufmann and Julia Fischer, and a focus on the evolving world of classical music.

13th of July

Worben: International Chess Festival- with around than 700 players meeting every year. Dates: 13-26.07.

Gstaad: EFG Swiss Open Gstaad- the most traditional ATP clay-court tennis tournament in Switzerland. Dates: 13-21.07.

Anzère: Tour des Alpages- A popular mountain race in the Valais.

14th of July

Adelboden: Wrestling and Alpine Festival- From wrestling to stone-throwing to yodeling: traditions are lived and cultivated at the Bergschwinget on the Engstligenalp.

Anzère: Beef festival- Dive into tradition and conviviality in Anzère with the “Fête du Boeuf” on July 14th.

15th of July

Fribourg / Freiburg: Festival Les Georges- in the heart of Fribourg with pop, rock, folk, jazz and electro. Dates: 15-20.07.

17th of July

Wabern: The Gurten Festival– Each summer, nearly 80,000 music enthusiasts journey to the top of Bern’s local mountain for the Gurtenfestival. A renowned Swiss music event known for its diverse lineup, cozy atmosphere, and breathtaking views. Dates: 17-20.07.

Laax: Highline World Championships – see the worlds best highliners compete for the world championship title in freestyle and speed highlining. Dates: 17-21.07.

18th of July

Lucerne: Luzern Live- an unforgettable festival experience on 5 stages around the unique Lucerne lake basin. With live music, market stalls and a huge range of street food and drinks.

Verbier: The Verbier Festival- with music enthusiasts from across the globe in the Swiss Alps for an enriching exchange between renowned classical masters and emerging talent. Dates: July 18th till August 4th.

Brunnen: Brunner Chilbi (Fair)- a festival in the picturesque village of Brunnen. 4 days of fun, entertainment, live music, regional specialties and culinary delights. Dates: 18-21.07.

Lugano: Ticino Music Festival- with a program that includes more than 70 events. Dates: 18-31st of July.

19th of July

Basel: The Basel Tattoo- The Basel Tattoo has been bringing the best and most spectacular music and show formations from all over the world to Basel. It is the second largest event of its kind in the world after the famous Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. Dates: 19-27.07.

20th of July

Innertkirchen: Wrestling and Alpine Festival Engstlenalp- one of the most beautiful wrestling and alpine festivals in Switzerland.

Eschenbach LU: Medieval market in Lucerne at the Herrendingen farm in Eschenbach. With handicrafts, exciting programs and historical insights. The entrance is free of charge and there is a shuttle service.

Ticino: the Swiss hiking night Ticino- Evening trekking on Monte Generoso with storytelling of the region. registration until 12 July.

21st of July

Grindelwald: Traditional costume festival on the Männlichen- typical costumes from different cantons, framed by appropriate folk music.

23rd of July

Nyon: The Paleo Festival- One of Europe’s biggest open-air festivals with all genres of music and famous international artists. Dates: between July 23rd-28th.

Langnau im Emmental: Langnau Jazz Nights- The international jazz festival in Emmental. Dates: 23-27.07.

24th of July

Lugano: The Lugano Buskers Festival: A five-day celebration of street art where over 50 artists, including musicians, actors, and acrobats, transform Lugano into a vibrant stage for unexpected and unforgettable performances. Dates: 24-28.07.

Château-d’Oex:  The Land of Children Festival- A unique family event offering street entertainment, indoor shows, fun workshops and games for all ages. Dates: 24-28.07.

25th of July

Degen: Open Air Lumnezia- a charming festival with music in the middle of the beautiful mountains of the Val Lumnezia. Dates: 25-27.07.

26th of July

Bern: The Latin Festival is a cultural event where Swiss and Latinos meet and learn about each other’s customs through cuisine, music and dance. Dates: 26-27.07.

Melide: The Wonderfood Festival is an annual culinary event that is dedicated to lovers of food and good living, offering a wide range of gastronomic delicacies. Dates: 26-28.07.

Münchenwiler: Medieval spectacle at Münchenwiler Castle- with a medieval market and food, taverns, show fights, jugglers, musicians games and entertainment. Dates: 26-28.07.

Interlaken: International Jugglers’ Festival with Comedians, jugglers, acrobats and magicians perform their tricks and shows in the middle of the street. Dates: 26-28.07.

Basel: Tension Festival- for electronic music lovers. Dates: 26-28.07.

Chur: The JazzChur Summer Festival- invites musicians from all over Europe to the capital of the canton of Graubünden. Dates: 26-31.07.

27th of July

Nendaz: The International Alphorn Festival brings together around 100 alphorn players for its unique competition and traditional ambience. Dates: 27-28.07.

Grindelwald: Swiss Wrestling & Alpine Festival on the Grosse Scheidegg.

Tegna-Ponte Brolla: International Cliff Diving Championship.

28th of July

Payerne: SlowUp la Broye- Experience the beauty of the Broye region on the car-free slowUp la Broye event. Where you can cycle, walk, or scooter through scenic landscapes, savor local specialties, and explore charming towns like Estavayer-le-Lac and Payerne.

Zermatt: Alpine Festival Stafelalp Zermatt- with Raclette, cheese, grills, drinks and desserts.

29th of July

Martigny: FIFO- Octodure International Folk Festival. Exploring rich traditional cultures from around the world, featuring music, dance, and customs from Africa to the Alps. Dates: July 29th-August 3rd.

30th of July

Flumserberg: Open Air- The biggest Schlagerevent in Switzerland. With Andreas Gabalier & Andrea Berg. Dates: July 30th- August 2nd.

Grimentz: Festi’Val d’Anniviers- Classical music festival in Grimentz. Dates: July 30th- August 4th.

31st of July

Estavayer-le-Lac: Estivale Open Air- one of the most beautiful music festivals on the shores of Lake Neuchâtel.

Celebrating the Swiss National Day in:

Basel, Zurich, Geneva, Bern, Lucerne, Vaud (some things are outdated in this list so pay attention) Neuhausen am Rheinfall, Zermatt, Ascona, Val d’Anniviers, Habkern, Bulle, Grimentz, Samnaun Dorf.
