Upcoming Cheese Markets, Festivals and Events

Hey there cheese lovers! If you opened this post I can only assume that just like me- you’re a cheese fan. Switzerland, being the land of delicious cheese host several cheese festivals and events around the country. Some are bigger than others but each one has the delicious local goods in common.

So here is your list to the upcoming events:

3rd of September

Sonogno: La Fromangiada – La Fromangiada-event takes place in the Verzasca Valley every year. The absolute main attraction is the famous Verzasca cheese, of course.

9th of September

Frauenfeld: Cheese Festival – The festival includes several highlights. Several folk music formations play throughout the day. In addition, a show cheesemaker will be on hand to introduce visitors to cheese-making. When: 09:00-16:00.

16th of September

Grindelwald: Cheese Festival- Visitors come comfortably by bus from Grindelwald or Meiringen to Grosse Scheidegg. There is also the possibility with the Firstbahn on First and then in a hike to the Grosse Scheidegg. There will be food stands, farmers and cheese lovers.

Iseltwald: The charming village invites you to the Chästeilet where you can but delicious cheese from the region.

17th of September

Hofstetten bei Brienz: Alpine Cheese Championships – The hugely popular Bernese Alp Cheese Championships take place on the third Sunday in September every year. Local cheese producers submit around 120 different examples of AOP Bernese Alp Cheese (Alpkäse), Hobelkäse and Alpmutschli to be judged by a panel of experts.

22nd of September

Sigriswil: Traditional Event – The “Chästeilet” in the Justistal invites you to experience a piece of Swiss tradition above Lake Thun.

23rd of September

Les Charbonnières: Alpine Festival- More than 4,000 people come to this local festival where they can enjoy the cows parade, a local produce market, traditional entertainment and, above all, a chance to taste the first vacherin of the season.

Le Châble: The event “Bagnes Capitale de la Raclette” is the must for all lovers of this cheese specialty. For one weekend, visitors will be able to discover the local products for which the region is famous, in particular the raclettes prepared with quality cheeses from the surrounding mountain pastures.

24th of September

Wengen: Cheese Festival – An event for cheese lovers where farmers share the produced alp cheese of the summer. As well as, Musical entertainment, games, competitions, and plenty of food and drinks.

30th of September

Thun: Cheese Festival with the cheesemakers from all over the Bern region ready to offer their homemade specialties. 

Habkern: Cheese Market with a wide range of Alpine cheese, Hobelkäse & Muetschli from various Habker Alps and fine homemade specialties.

Lauterbrunnen: A historical cheese market with cheese from the region.

1st of October

Elm: The people of the Alps present their Glarner Alpine cheese at the stands along with bells and cows parades.

Mürren: The beautiful village invites you to try the different cheeses of the region.

Flumserberg: Around 30 alpine cheese producers put themselves to the critical palate of the visitors at the alpine cheese award ceremony.

7th of October

Huttwil: The Huttwil Cheese Market is a presentation platform for the diversity of Swiss cheese. More than 30 cheese dairies and exhibitors with complementary offers await cheese lovers each year.

14th of October

Lucerne: The Lucerne Cheese Festival is the largest cheese market in Central Switzerland.

21st of October

Bern: An absolute “must” – a visit to the cheese festival in Bern! The cheese makers from the region proudly present their golden yellow treasures from the cheese cellars!

Stans: Discover the Nidwaldner GenussMarkt in Spittelgasse near the village square in Stans.

22nd of October

Flumserberg: Alpchäsmarkt Flumserberg- Alpine cheese market and cow races!

27th of October

Morgins: From October 27th to the 29th, Région Dents du Midi will hold the first-ever Raclette World Championships – bringing together the creme-de-la-creme of local and foreign producers of this emblematic Valais speciality.

28th of October

Appenzell: The mysterious canton invites you to try its variety of cheese and see the making process.

Muotathal: The alpine Cheese market invites you to a large Trychlä (cattle bells) exhibition during the 2 market days in addition to around 40 exhibitors all about alpine cheese and other agricultural products.
