March is the last month of winter and the perfect opportunity to explore some of the wintery events here in Switzerland, enjoy what’s left of the snow and get wild in some of the carnivals this month.
So here is your list of fun events:

1st of March
Basel: There is a crazy Fasnacht carnival in Basel and the 1st of March is actually the last day that you can enjoy it this year. The wild parade is going to take place from 13:30-18:00, don’t miss it!
St. Moritz: There is an old traditional Engadin custom dating back to the Roman times. In which the St. Moritz schoolchildren parade through the village in order to put an end to winter with their singing and whip cracking. The parade will start at 10:30 in the middle of the village.
Graubünden: The mysterious canton has a bunch of parades just like the one in St. Moritz called Chalandamarz. Therefore, in this link you can find all the locations together for you to choose the most convenient for you to join.
3rd of March
Murten: The beautiful quiet town on the lake will host its wild festival between the 3rd and the 6th of March. The 04.03 seem to be more for children but the big parade will happen on the 5th of March at 15:00 o’clock.
St. Moritz: On the 3th and 4th March, the Swiss Championships in the disciplines of bobsleigh and skeleton will take place on the world´s only natural ice bobsleigh track.
Sattel-Hochstuckli: A nostalgic ski race takes place in Sattel-Hochstuckli time to take your grandma’s ski outfit out!


4th of March
Mürren: The Big Air Contest “Night Air” on Saturday Night in Mürren. On the floodlit hill behind Hotel Jungfrau with Freeskier and Snowboarder doing spectacular jumps with a chance to win CHF 12,000.
Les Pléiades: A giant slalom race for the whole family with many prizes and souvenirs for all participants.
7th of March
Solothurn: The Gusto Festival will happen in Solothurn between the 07.03-11.03 for those of you that love the Latin- American cuisine.

9th of March
Engadin: Night Ski marathon for the sport lovers here. Although you can also come just to watch and then explore the area.
10th of March
Moudon: Fasnacht carnival from the 10.03-12.03. If you’re mainly coming to see the parade, There will be several of them. While the big procession will take place on the 12th at 14:30, there is also a parade for kids taking place on the 11th at 15:00. As well as a night procession at 20:00 on the 11.03.
Basel: Wine festival in Basel between the 10.03-12.03 where you van enjoy tasting and learning about a huge variety of wines.


11th of March
Aigle: Swiss wrestling in Aigle, did you know that its actually a very known national sport here in Switzerland?
Bad Ragaz: The 16th edition of the Nostalgic ski race Pizol is taking place in Bad Ragaz.
Klewenalp: Hosting the longest horn Sled race in Switzerland, with some wild turns.
Grindelwald: A crazy race called “The king of the first hill” will take place in the stunning Jungfrau region. So, if you dare to negotiate the 1,300-metre altitude in the shortest possible time the crown will be yours but I bet that it’s also fun to watch from the side.
Davos: FIS Snowboard Europacup and open races in parallel giant slalom and parallel slalom will take place in Davos between the 11th and the 12th of March


15th of March
Ermatingen: The Groppenfasnacht in Ermatingen is the latest carnival in eastern Switzerland. Likely originates from an old Germanic spring festival of the local fishermen. When: between the 15th to the 19th of March.
17th of March
Avenches: A wild carnival will take place in Avenches between the 17.03-19.03. Along with a parade on the 17th at 21:30, kids parade on the 18th at 15:30 followed by a battle of confetti and a huge parade on the 19th at 14:30. Have fun!
18th of March
Leukerbad: Swiss tradition of cow fight will take place in the mysterious canton, Valais. When: 13:00, free entrance.
Lenk: Vintage ski race in Lenk- time to get those wooden skis and grannies outfits out of the closet.

22nd of March
Basel: Spring Messe will take place in Basel featuring regional bands and artists as well as art performances, delicious food and local beverages. When: 22.03-26.03.
Emmental: The hot air balloon days in Emmental will take place between the 22.03-26.03 with balloon race starting in the early mornings, kids activities and even night glow!
23rd of March
Zurich: A wine festival will take place in Zurich between the 23.03-26.06, perfect for wine lovers.



25th of March
La Gruyère: The Chocolate Quest in the stunning region of Gruyere will take place between the 25.03-26.03. With different chocolate circuits, chocolate workshops and even chocolate bunnies.
26th of March
Muralto: A traditional fish festival will take place in Muralto with fun celebrations, music and kids activities. Make sure to check the weather before coming as in the case of bad weather conditions they will move it to the following Sunday.
